Dear FlyOrDie Developers and Administration Team.
I want to commend you on the existing feature that allows users to edit their nicknames once every 12 months. It's an excellent idea, as it provides players the opportunity to refresh their identity without the need to create a new account.
However, I have observed an issue where some users edit their nicknames to something that inadvertently or intentionally violates the site rules, specifically those outlined in Section 1 ("Nicknames") of the Moderation Guidelines (
https://www.flyordie.com/games/help/moderation.html).
Such violations can potentially result in permanent bans, which could have been avoided with an additional safeguard.
To address this, I would like to propose a small enhancement to the system:
When a user requests to edit their nickname, instead of the change being applied instantly, the system could send a notification to the Moderators and Administrators for review. For example: "FOD Wizard has requested to change their nickname to TEST. Do you approve or decline this request?"
This would give the moderation team the ability to review and approve or decline nickname changes based on compliance with the rules. By implementing this approval process, we can prevent rule-breaking nicknames before they appear publicly, thus reducing potential bans and ensuring adherence to the site's guidelines.
I believe this change could improve the user experience while upholding the integrity of the community and maintaining fairness in enforcement of the rules.
I look forward to hearing your thoughts and others from the community.
NB: I will also post this message on 'hoat4' topic which he created regarding the new update. You can see that here -
