Why people do this?
I have played with many people the last 8-9 years that i been playing 8-ball pool in here (used to play as a guest before i decided to creat a profile). About in 1 of every 10 games, the player leaves the game (no disconnecting because of bad internet connection; deliberately quitting) when i'm about to pocket the black ball (number 8) , when the shot is easy and it's almost certainly that i will win. Why people took away your enjoyment of winning 2-3 seconds before you achieve it? Because of that action (quitting the game before it's natural end) , you somehow feel like he/she "allowed" you to win, when this isn't the case. I know that basic psychology of "everybody wants to win, nobody wants to lose" but why don't you win/defeat or loss with honor? Why don't you wait 2-3 more seconds, ideally send a "gg" (shirt of "good game") or "Well played!" or "Thanks for the game, see you around!" and THEN leave? One in 10 games end like this and it's just a shame...
Hey Tom,

Yeah, I can imagine how much it sucks when someone just quits right before you sink the 8-ball!
Some players just hate seeing that final shot as much as you love nailing it.
Of course a quick “gg” or “nice one” before leaving would be so much cooler, but you just keep up the good vibes!

Cheers

Hey there, thanks for replying!

One thing i forgot to mention is the time i "invest" on a game, the patience in order to play fair (i.e. no move of white ball) , etc.

Average game (assuming one doesn't accidentally pockets the black) is between 4 and 7 minutes, depending on various circumstances (i.e. skills of both players, how easy some balls are to be pocketed, how much time does it take to each player to play in his/her turn -some people wait 20-30 seconds before EVERY shot, lol).

So, imagine waiting for 4-7 minutes in a game just for a polite, gentleman-alike ending with casual greetings and wishes for good luck, and the other player suddenly quits.

I may be oversensitive about this but since you will lose either way if i.e. i pocket the black or you quit before i do, why to hurry to quit this one and enter another game?

I never quit myself unless i really have to go. No one wins all the time but losing with honor while "standing tall" , is just something people accept as an "unwritten rule".

I know it's just a game and most people don't take it that seriously but why can't they act like gentlemen in a game as well as they do in real life?
You’ve nailed something that quietly ruins more games than bad luck or missed shot, lack of respect at the finish line.

That small moment before the win is where character shows. Letting the game run its course, typing a quick “gg”, or simply staying until the black drops, these are minor gestures that show major sportsmanship.

Sadly, not everyone plays with that mindset. But those who do? You notice them. They make this place better.

Exactly!

You perfectly quote it:

"That small moment before the win is where character shows. Letting the game run its course, typing a quick “gg”, or simply staying until the black drops, these are minor gestures that show major sportsmanship."

I agree 100% ! Kudos
Hi Tom 999,
you summed it up very well. Despite the respect shown by good players and very good games, many have lost the ability to show good manners and respect. We've become a tough society in recent years. We no longer receive respect from other players. I was raised differently and always respect other players, whether I win or lose.
It's just all about ego! 😂
Here many play using their mobile phones. Slightest reduction in bandwidth can cause disconnection. It happens to me frequently
I play with my mobile phone and i live in Greece which is a country with a really slow internet speed so bandwidth has it's ups and downs.

I use a Galaxy A05s smartphone, playing in the mobile version from Firefox browser (with only my AdBlockPlus as plug-in, no other extension running in the background) and my current speed is 9,3 Mbps/s and so far i never disconnected because of my internet connection UNLESS i minimize the tab where my pool game is running in the background and changed tab for more than 15 seconds (under 15 seconds i noticed that it just lags a little/connection is lost but then it automatically reconnects to the server so unless if you are not interested enough to play with someone -or it takes you too much time to shoot in your turn- it won't happen to you).

So that sounds like a connection problem of yours because my internet speed is below average, my mobile is also below average, and i'm playing just fine.
