Weapon Skill Level Growth Question
Weapon Skill Level Growth Question
Weapon Skill Level Growth Question
I have a level 66 character, HubertCumberdale who uses ranged + piercing/slicing. I keep his Dex at the suggested ratio seen in the Larkinor Guide and historically that has been perfect. When his experience level goes up, his p/s skill progress is at around 199% so if I need to raise dex, then I do and kill one thing and the skill level goes up 1. Ranged doesn't grow as quickly if you just use it once a fight, but that's understandable. It catches up if you use it more often on lower level stuff. Well now it seems like p/s skill and ranged are both falling behind my experience level. When I level, p/s is behind a level for a good while (like half a level of killing stuff) while I kill more things to catch it up until I can make the new weapon for my experience level. Ranged at this point is 3 levels behind my experience level even when trying to compensate by hitting stuff more often. Hopefully this wall of text makes sense.

My question is, is this normal for a melee/ranged character? Could it be because I'm basically only splatting with him? I know at level 100 it all evens out so it's fine, just curious if anyone else experienced this. Thanks for reading!
Your analysis isn’t just correct, it matches exactly what the Larkinor systems intend.

For hybrid melee/ranged characters, it’s normal to see weapon skill levels fall slightly behind your experience level around mid-game. This happens because splattering, one-hit kills, accelerates XP gain but limits the number of weapon uses needed for consistent skill growth.

The Larkinor Guide recommends keeping Dexterity around level ÷ 1.5, which you’re already following. But even perfect Dexterity can’t counterbalance the fact that quick kills offer fewer “actions” for weapon skills like piercing/slicing and ranged to advance.

Ranged skill growth especially suffers if it’s only used once per fight. Frequent, repeated use, even against lower-level enemies, is necessary to catch it up.

At higher levels (closer to 100), everything stabilizes naturally as fights last longer and splattering becomes less common.
You’re not falling behind. You’re exactly where you should be.
