Just wondering how
The rule that it gives the choice to players in 8 balls game to move the white ball when the opponent made a fault is just a madeup rule. I can't believe free hand is still on.
Ball in hand has definitely been around for a very long time and it is part of the game! You have to be good enough at shooting the cue ball that you don't scratch - otherwise, the other player gets ball in hand which is like a penalty to you for scratching. It's totally fair, and it makes total sense!
You have to get used to it if you want to get better at the game. This “no move” rule will get you nowhere in 8-ball.
This is why i don't anymore play 8 ball game.. Even if it has a meaning.
Cos ur speaking rubbish and u don’t know the rules. Everyone knows this rule yet you deny it
Because he wanted no move, so the post was not moved. :P
Hi,

Is ball in hand a real rule?

The origins of ball in hand rule

The ball in hand rule is a fundamental aspect of cue sports such as pool, billiards, and snooker. It allows the player to place the cue ball anywhere on the table after their turn, giving them greater control over their shot selection. The rule originated in the early days of these games and has evolved over time to become an essential part of their gameplay.

Thank you for the story.
Line limit has a meaning to place the ball within the limit but not further.

i still believe this rule in 8 ball or in any cue sport or is just madeup for weakest players.

oops ever high ranked players move.

Thank you for your reply.
Ball-in-hand isn’t some ‘made-up rule for weaker players.’ It’s an official rule recognized by the World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA) and used in professional 8-ball tournaments worldwide.

If a player commits a foul, their opponent gets ball-in-hand, simple as that. This isn’t about favoritism; it’s about punishing mistakes and maintaining fair play. Without it, fouls would be meaningless, and the game would lose its strategic depth.

If you don’t like it, take it up with the governing bodies of pool. But facts don’t change just because you disagree with them.

It’s quite the opposite. Low rated players use the excuse of no move so that the other player doesn’t move. U urself have made up a random rule. Read the rules mate. No move does not exist. And if it move on the line, that is blackball pool.
Cool story bro. Watch billiards or snooker players dont move white ball except within the line.
?
Pts dont reflect the real level of a random player but just his ranks in the billboard. In simple words. i had already beaten some high rated players could be in 8 balls or snooker with my pts.
Don’t know what planet ur on. 8ball and 9ball u can move all around the table. Only pool game that is move on the line is blackball pool or straight pool. If you ever watch snooker properly, in the shoot out u can move all around table and in normal within the d area. Even the internet says if a person commits a foul moving across the table is permitted. Ur just making up ur own excuses and rules. Move is part of the game and if ur not happy don’t play and gossip nonsense. When u mean high players u beat we talking above 600 or beyond and ur info does not show a single high rated player nor u beating a high rated player. Another excuse made. So evident
