Can I ask is it demerit worthy if you leave a game because you know you have no chance of winning it?

it would be unsportsmanlike to leave if someone was gonna make a high break otherwise I don't think so
If you had no choice to leave , Id say its good manners to tell your opponent you need to go. Or just leave it to the end of the let etc.
